WV Weekend: Microbreweries

WV Weekend: Microbreweries

Looking for a getaway that includes sipping and savoring handcrafted brews and wines? Look no further than Greater Parkersburg. The region features three unique breweries and two wineries you’ll want to take time to explore.

When you cozy into a booth at North End Tavern & Brewery you’ll quickly realize this is a local favorite. It is the oldest continually operating pub and restaurant in the state of West Virginia. The N.E.T (as the locals call it) produces high-quality beer and grows its own hops on the property. Favorite brews include the award-winning amber ale, Roedy’s Red and WV Wheat. Make sure to enjoy a few craft brews with the house specialty, a N.E.T. burger!

Born in true West Virginia tradition with the highest dedication to quality and craftsmanship, Parkersburg Brewing Co. crafts and delivers full flavored and unique specialty beers to suit every taste. In addition to great brews, you’ll also love the atmosphere. The brewery is located in a renovated historic building in downtown Parkersburg, WV. Exposed brick walls and polished hardwood floors give off an urban vibe. Lunch and dinner are served.

Marietta Brewing Company prides itself in handcrafted beer, like the Cooper's Copper Ale and Estalla's Raspberry Wheat. The brewery, located in historic downtown Marietta, Ohio, carries an assortment of year-round and seasonal beers. Don't forget to try one of the pub’s pizzas or brewhouse burgers. And be sure to check its website and for one of the many live music performances or trivia nights scheduled.

6 Civil War Sites to See in the MOV

While there were no significant battles fought in Greater Parkersburg during the Civil War, the county was greatly changed. It lay at the junction of two major turnpikes, two rivers, and was on the main line of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. It instantly became a key transportation hub. In addition, the area provided more leaders for the West Virginia Statehood cause than any other county and because of its strategic location became a dominant force in the establishment of West Virginia.
