Blennerhassett Mansion Foodways Special Tour
Saturday, June 1, 2024, 1pm – 2pm
This special Mansion Foodways Tour explains the role that food played in the daily lives of the Blennerhassett family and their neighbors. The term Foodways is defined as an in-depth look at people (the Blennerhassett Family) in a location (Blennerhassett Island) and talks about the procurement, the preparation, and the presentation of food on their table. As you go through the Mansion, you will learn about the foods of the time period and how the success of social entertainment at the Blennerhassett Mansion depended upon food-whether it was a dinner in the formal Dining Room, Tea in the Parlor or refreshments at an Evening of Music or Dancing. This conversation continues in the Summer Kitchen as you explore seasonality, cooking methods and food preservation. Step back in Time at the Blennerhassett Mansion. Martha and Dick Hartley as food historians, food authors and Volunteer Educators for the Park will lead this tour.
The cost of this one-hour educational tour is $5.00 for adults plus $12 for your boat transportation to the Island. Call the Park’s Museum at 304-420-4800 if you have questions.
