Magic, music, and romance return to the stage at the Actors Guild of Parkersburg with the opening of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella on August 5.
The show is a musical retelling of the classic fairy tale. Cinderella is a teenage girl forced to work as a servant for her coldhearted stepmother and homely stepsisters. One day when home alone, Cinderella shares a cup of water with a thirsty and handsome traveler, not realizing that he is the crown prince of the kingdom. When the king and queen invite every young maiden in the kingdom to a royal ball so that the crown prince can find a girl to marry, Cinderella’s stepmother and stepsisters go, leaving Cinderella behind to wish about how her life could be. While she is daydreaming, she is visited by her fairy godmother, who makes it possible for her wishes to come true.
The show runs August 5-21 with curtain time at 8 PM on August 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, and 20, 2:30 PM on August 7 and 21, and 6 PM on August 14. A sensory sensitive performance for individuals with special needs is planned for 2 PM on August 13. The sensory sensitive performance will employ COVID protocol seating, audience lights turned on to allow those attending to come and go as they please, a televised video in the lobby, and other lighting and stage magic considerations.
Tickets cost $20 for adults and $18 for students and seniors and are available now on the Guild website at www.actors-guild.com. The corporate sponsor for the production is West Virginia Central Federal Credit Union. The show is rated G.
