Blennerhassett Mansion Foodways Special Tour
This special Mansion Foodways Tour explains the role that food played in the daily lives of the Blennerhassett family and their neighbors. The term Foodways is defined as an in-depth look at people (the Blennerhassett Family) in a location (Blennerhassett Island) and tells about the procurement, the preparation, and the presentation of food on their table. As we go through the Mansion we will learn about the foods of the time period and how the success of social entertainment at the Blennerhassett Mansion depended upon food whether it was a dinner in the formal Dining Room, Tea in the Parlor, or refreshments at an Evening of Dancing. This conversation continues in the Summer Kitchen as you explore seasonality, cooking methods, and food preservation. Step back in Time with us. The cost of this one-hour tour is $5.00 for adults. Island boat transportation costs $12.00 for adults and $8.00 for children. Call the Park’s Museum at 304-420-4800 if you have questions.
