Plants at the Point – Parkersburg, WV
Located at the Parkersburg Welcome Center is Plants at the Point, a collaborative community garden of over 45 rentable beds for residents or organizations to maintain and plant produce in.
The garden features three exhibition wildflower beds, designed to support the native pollinator population, which were funded by the Rotary Club of Parkersburg and installed with the help of the West Virginia Extension Office, Wood County Master Gardeners and West Virginia University at Parkersburg. A new wetland trail has opened at the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge in Williamstown, WV. The project was in development for six years and officially opened May 23, 2026. The trail was designed to be an outdoor classroom, making it the perfect spot to hike, birdwatch, take nature photography, and learn about the Ohio River ecosystem.
The refuge offers educational and fun programming, including morning bird walks on Saturdays and guided paddles on the Ohio River.

North Bend State Park – Cairo, WV
Is there really any better place to immerse yourself in plants than right in nature? North Bend State Park has over 25 miles of trail, split across 17 hiking trails across the park. The 72-mile North Bend Rail Trail also runs through the park.
North Bend also hosts a variety of educational events, and it is home to the Nature Wonder Weekend hosted by the West Viriginia Department of Natural Resources, which focuses on foraging and preparing wild foods.
