It’s officially sweater weather! With the dropping of temperatures comes the changing of leaves, and here at Visit Greater Parkersburg, we know exactly where you need to be for the best fall activities and views.

  1. Fort Boreman Park (pictured above) – Located two miles from downtown Parkersburg, the park features Union Civil War trenches, interpretive signage, picnic shelters and spectacular views of Parkersburg and the Ohio and Little Kanawha Rivers.   2. Blennerhassett Island State Park – Only a 20-minute sternwheel boat ride away, the island is the perfect way to travel back in time, transporting history buffs to the early 19th century. A special candlelight tour occurs every Fall in early October (10/7/22 & 10/8/22) where Blennerhassett Island and its magnificent mansion are illuminated by hundreds of candles and lantern boxes. While on the island, plan to take a horse-drawn wagon ride, visit the gift shop, and warm yourself by the bonfire. Julia-Ann Square Historic District – One of the largest and oldest historic districts in West Virginia, Julia-Ann Square was an important center in West Virginia’s early history and features beautiful historic homes and magnificent architecture. Come to the Welcome Center at 113 Ann St. for a walking tour guide including 49 houses and a historic church. When the leaves are changing, this historic district is particularly enchanting.   4. North Bend State Park & Rail Trail – 17 hiking trails with a total of 26 miles are available for all skill levels including the “Extra Mile” trail, which is paved and level. Spend the weekend at the 2,500-acre North Bend State Park, located in Cairo, WV, where you can stay at the lodge, deluxe cabin, or the campground before or after a long hike. Don’t miss a walk on the North Bend Rail Trail. The trail stretches 72 miles through 13 tunnels, including the infamous haunted Silver Run Tunnel. Learn More
